Dark Side of Light


Have you ever heard someone talk about 'light pollution'? It may seem weird to connect beautiful winter decorations with the concept of 'pollution' - but too much illumination at night can have negative consequences. 

Living organisms, both plants and animals, have evolved with nature's daily cycle of light and darkness for tens of millions of years. Our biorhythms are adapted to the regularity of sunrise and sunset.   The light installations around our houses and our homes may work to keep the darkness and the monsters at bay, but is all this light good for us?  Darkness has its advantages. Not only does it allow us to see the stars, it is also beneficial for nature, for the economy and for our own health.
