Courses that can be booked by agreement!

Below is a list of bookable courses for teacher teams of at least five people. At the top are half-day professional development courses. These are followed by full-day and multi-session courses. The link to our collaborative projects (in Swedish) can also provide tips on schools or organisations that we have cooperated with in the past, or currently work with, and which also run interesting professional development courses.

Energy

Vattenhallen and the Division of Environmental and Energy Systems Studies at the Faculty of Engineering LTH offer a half-day of professional development and inspiration about energy and climate.

For: Teacher grade 4 - 9

Time: 8.30 - 12.00, 13.00 - 16.30 or 16.00 - 19.30

Program
- Presentation of Vattenhallen and "What is Technology?"
- Lecture on energy and climate.
- Experiments on subjects such as the environmental impact of housing, food and transport. 
- Laboratory session about wind power.
- Discussion and evaluation

Price: 750 SEK/person (excl. VAT), including coffee

Medical technology

Vattenhallen and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering LTH offer a half-day course for professional development and inspiration on medical technology.  

För: Teachers Grade 7- Upper Secondary School

Time: 8.30 - 12.00, 13.00 - 16.30 or 16.00 - 19.30 

Program
- Presentation of Vattenhallen and "What is Technology?" 
- Monica Almqvist, senior lecturer, lectures on medical technology 
- Laboratory sessions with ultrasound, pacemaker and blood pressure gauge, 
- Discussion and evaluation

Micro:bit programming

Vattenhallen offers a course on Micro:bit programming. Micro:bit is a small computer without a keyboard and screen. It was developed by BBC to encourage young people to get started programming, constructing and creating their own inventions. With Micro:bit, programming will be easy and fun. No previous knowledge required. Feel free to bring your own computer.

For: Teachers Grade 4-9

Time: 3 hours

Price: 750 SEK/person (excl. VAT), including coffee 
The course is offered on request for groups of a minimum of 5 participants.


Robot programming

Vattenhallen offers a course to try Robot programming. Participants may try different ways and materials that suit how programming can be introduced to younger students. Some examples are Dance programming, BlueBot, Makey Makey, Lego Mindstorms, Kojo and Micro:bit. We talk about sequence, control and the difference between block and text programming.

No previous knowledge required. Feel free to bring your own computer.

For: Teachers Grade F-6

Time: 3 hours

Price: 750 SEK/person (excl. VAT), including coffee

Astronomy

Vattenhallen and the Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics offer a half-day course for professional development and inspiration on space and galaxies. 

For: Teachers Grade 1- 6

Time: 8.30 - 12.00, 13.00 - 16.30 or 16.00 - 19.30 

Program 
- Presentation of Vattenhallen and "What is Technology?"
- Anna Arnadottir, astronomer, lectures on galaxies.
- Computer exercise in galaxy classification. 
- Planetarium show 
- Discussion and evaluation

Water and air

Vattenhallen offers a half-day course for professional development and inspiration on conducting simple water and air experiments for the youngest school children.

For: Teachers Grade F-3

Time: 8.30 - 12.00, 13.00 - 16.30 or 16.00 - 19.30 

Program
- Presentation of Vattenhallen and "What is Technology?" 
- Experimenting with our air and water experiments such as the hydroelectric power unit, Archimedes principle, large soap bubbles and liquid nitrogen. 
- Laboratory sessions with density tubes and "spooky fizzy drinks" 
- Discussion and evaluation

Full-day courses and courses given on several occasions


Experimental chemistry

Vattenhallen offers two half-days of professional development and inspiration on conducting simple, fun chemistry experiments together with children at preschool. 

For: Preschool teachers

Time: 2 occasions - 3,5 hour/occasion, 8.30 - 12.00 or 13.00-16.30

Program
- general introduction with basis in the curriculum and research.
- demonstrations with explanations of simple experiments that can be done together with children at preschool. (no prior knowledge of chemistry is required).
- opportunities to practise conducting several different simple experiments in small groups and to discuss what happens and why.
- opportunities to share your own experiences and hear other preschool teachers’ experiences. 

Course leader: Marianne Almström, senior lecturer in chemistry, author of several chemistry textbooks (preschool to upper secondary school), with experience of experiments together with preschool children, and Camilla Christensson, teacher of chemistry with experience of teacher training and continuing professional develop  

Price: 1500 SEK/person (excl. VAT), including coffee and the book ”Amanda, Lovisa och Tage experimenterar” with descriptions of 25 experiments adapted for children of preschool age.
The course is offered on request for groups of between 10 and 20 participants.


Development courses full-day

Choose two of the half-day courses above to compose your own full-day programme. 

For: Teachers Grade F - Upper Secondary School

Time: 8.30 - 16.30 

Program 
The programme is designed in cooperation with our staff from Vattenhallen.
The courses you can choose are: Energy, Medical technology, Space and Water and air.

Price: 1500 SEK/person (excl. VAT), including lunch and coffee
The course is offered on request for groups of minimum 5 participants.


Physics

An experimental course with laboratory sessions at your own pace. Around 10 different laboratory sessions are included and the course is conducted in cooperation with teaching media company, Zenit.

For: Physics teachers at Upper Secondary School

Time: 8.30 - 17.00 

Program
Course leader Roland Johansson, Upper Secondary School teacher at Katedralskolan in Lund and also co-author of teaching media Orbit 1. 

Price: 2500 SEK/person (excl. VAT), including lunch and coffee.
The course is offered on request for groups of between 5 and 18 participants.


Learn to program

Simple and fun programming exercises that can be used for sessions with pupils at school.
No prior knowledge is required. 

For: Teachers F - Upper Secondary School

Time: 3 occasions of 3 hours/occasion.

Program
The aim of the course is to make a start on simple and fun programming exercises together with your pupils. You need to have your own computer that runs Windows, MacOSX or Linux. The course consists of 7 hours of seminars + approx.  5 hours of work on written assignments.

Course leader: Rolf Niemann, Vattenhallen and researcher from Department of Computer Science at LTH.

Control and regulation systems

Vattenhallen and the Departments of Automatic Control and Electrical and Information Technology offer a half day of continuing professional development and inspiration on control and regulation systems. 

For: Teachers Grade 7- Upper Secondary School

Time: 9.00 - 16.00 

Program
- Presentation of Vattenhallen Science Center. 
- Lecture: " Control and regulation technology: What is it?", professor Anders Robertsson.
- Lecture: "Interactive electronics with Arduino", senior lecturer Anders Johansson.
- Control and regulation laboratory sessions Arduino.
- Discussion and evaluation.
